Add a Help button to your website

The help widget puts a small Help button in the corner of your own website. Visitors click it to search your help articles without leaving the page, and if that doesn't answer their question, they send you a message. It's on every plan.

Turn it on

  1. Go to Settings > Connections > Help widget.
  2. Tick Show the widget on my website, pick a button color and the words on the button, and click Save.
  3. Click Copy code and paste the line on your website, just before </body>, on every page you want the button on. In WordPress, a Custom HTML block in your footer works, or a "header and footer scripts" plugin.

That's it. Turning the widget off hides the button everywhere within a couple of minutes; the line can stay on your site.

What visitors see

  • A search box over your published articles (drafts never show), and your top articles by their Position.
  • Each article opens right in the panel, with a link to the full help center.
  • Send us a message: their name, email and question.

Where messages go

Each message becomes a normal conversation in your inbox, tagged Help widget, with the page they were on. It lands on your default mailbox, or the one you pick in the widget settings, and your reply goes out by email from that mailbox like any other.

Rules, auto-assign, and your Slack, Teams and webhook alerts all work as they do for email.

The widget shows the visitor a thank-you, but no automatic email goes back to them. Anyone can type any address into a website form, so an automatic email would let strangers make your mailbox email whoever they like.

Spam checks run on every message, and each company can receive up to 300 widget messages a day.
